Licensed Professional Counselor – Erin Gajda received her BA in Community Services and then her MA for Counseling from Siena Heights University. She has been in the helping profession in various forms for the last 20 years. She started as a nurse’s aide with hospice, then she provided homebound healthcare for closed head injury clients, later she was a family advocate and then a case manager for co-occurring homeless individuals. She has been working in private practice as a counselor since 2014.
With her strong desire to help people live more fulfilling lives combined with her extensive and varied past experiences, Erin has developed a therapy style that is both compassionate and effective.
She describes her approach to therapy as follows:
“Often family history and life experiences have taught us unhealthy skills in dealing with painful events in our lives. You may have found yourself in a place where you are reacting in ways you never thought you would and not living the life you want. It's common to not even know why you are feeling the way you do. Exhaustion, frustration, anger and being easily overwhelmed are just a few common indicators there is something going on with your emotional self. If you are struggling, know there is a different way.
I have found that a hybrid of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and reality therapy helps to redirect old coping skills into personal empowerment. This moves you away from being in a reactionary state of mind into one where you are responsive and engaging in your life the way you want.
This treatment style is effective for many mental health concerns including: Anxiety, depression, OCD, negative self-dialogue, PTSD, worry, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, body image issues, and addictions. The therapy environment is warm, supportive and nonjudgmental. You can expect to laugh and cry but most of all to feel better!”
